NESMA implements a comprehensive healthcare delivery model that prioritizes essential medical services and professional development.

Health Sector

Al Madina Hospital in Deir ez-Zor:

Al Madina Hospital is managed by NESMA, serves as a vital healthcare center in Northeast Syria, addressing the needs of approximately 630,000 people, including internally displaced persons and host communities. Equipped with advanced medical technology, the hospital provides comprehensive services, including intensive care, inpatient and outpatient care, emergency services, and adult and pediatric hemodialysis. The facility maintains strict infection prevention and waste management protocols, ensuring preparedness for disease outbreaks, while enhancing staff capacity through technical support and supervision from experienced physicians.

Primary Health Care Centers:

NESMA supporting Primary Health Care Centers (PHCCs) in Deir-Ez-Zor, Ar Raqqa, and Hasakah Governorates, Northeast Syria, to address the rising demand for primary healthcare amid disrupted services and weakened health systems. These centers provide comprehensive care, including treatment for communicable and non-communicable diseases, reproductive health, nutrition, and mental health services, while ensuring strong referral pathways to higher-level care within a 50 KM radius. Operated by well-trained staff, the PHCCs deliver standardized services, enhanced through capacity-building training and adherence to infection prevention and waste management protocols to ensure safe, quality care.

Nutrition:

NESMA, in partnership with SCI, is continuing its efforts to address malnutrition in Deir-ez-Zor Governorate by distributing RUTF (Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food) and RUSF (Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food) for the treatment of Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) cases. These distributions are taking place at selected nutrition sites across the Northeast of Syria, as part of NESMA’s ongoing commitment to combat malnutrition and improve the health and well-being of vulnerable populations.

MHPSS, Protection, and Higher Education Sector:

Education:

The Advanced Quality Learning (AQL) initiative for Mental Health in Syria is another project being implemented by NESMA, which aims to address the severe mental health crisis by strengthening mental health education and professional development in Northeast Syria. The project focuses on improving the availability and quality of mental health education through academic and professional training initiatives, including the development of curricula in psychiatric nursing, clinical psychology, and psychosocial support. It also works to build local capacity by training students, strengthening professional associations, and addressing the critical shortage of qualified mental health professionals in the region.
